right now the Maka 7 is down stairs, watching the collage football championship. dad is on the computer and cj is cheering is head off. Abigail is... never mind. :D

we had a wonderful Christmas, which we spent at home. even though it was Sunday, we decided not to go to church. We spent the morning eating waffles, bacon and eggs, then opened presents.

New years we spent at dads parents eating food, watching football, and catching up with the cousins. fun times. :)

Sorry I haven't posted very much lately... I've been soo busy. school is definitely back in full swing!!

full-scale (realistic) exercise to test the region¹s ability to respond

to a mass casualty terrorist attack.

The public should take note that the exercise will simulate the movement

and treatment of mock victims to area hospitals. Residents should

anticipate additional helicopter traffic in the area.

This exercise will not impact the ability to be promptly seen at local

hospitals, but people should be aware that they will likely see mock

victims dressed up to look like they have been severely injured and

hospital staff in personal protective equipment simulating the

decontamination process.

People should not be alarmed; this is a planned exercise to test the

regions capability to respond to a mass casualty scenario.

ok you may remember a year ago when cabela (our dog) turned 1. this is probably really cheesy to most people (including me!!) but mom insists. she wanted me to take pictures of cabela while she was eating her birthday cake.

homemade oreos

today bekah made these amazing oreo cookies.... try 'em :)

homemade oreos
adapted from smitten kitchen homemade oreos

ingredients for the chocolate wafers:
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened Dutch process cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons (1 1/4 sticks) room-temperature, unsalted butter
1 large egg

ingredients for the filling:
1/2 cup (1 stick) room-temperature, unsalted butter
2 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar (or powde
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

directions

Preheat oven to 375°F and set two racks in the middle of the oven.
In a food processor, or bowl of an electric mixer, thoroughly mix the flour, cocoa, baking soda and powder, salt, and sugar. While pulsing, or on low speed, add the butter, and then the egg. Continue processing or mixing until dough comes together in a mass.
Take rounded teaspoons of batter and place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet approximately two inches apart. With moistened hands, slightly flatten the dough. Bake for 9 minutes, rotating once for even baking. Set baking sheets on a rack to cool.
To make the cream, place butter in a mixing bowl, and at low speed, gradually beat in the sugar and vanilla. Turn the mixer on high and beat for 2 to 3 minutes until filling is light and fluffy.
To assemble the cookies, in a pastry bag with a 1/2 inch, round tip, pipe teaspoon-size blobs of cream into the center of one cookie. Place another cookie, equal in size to the first, on top of the cream. Lightly press, to work the filling evenly to the outsides of the cookie. Continue this process until all the cookies have been sandwiched with cream (makes 25-30 sandwich cookies). Eat with a tall glass of milk and enjoy!

school, sports, and bears (aka. "end of summer")

hello readers! WARING- this is the "end of summer sadness" post. we do not take any responsibility for upset and angry teens, children and teachers who don't want to talk about the up-coming school year.

so i haven't posted in a while because...well... our lives haven't had anything very exciting to post about lately. sounds pretty lame, but it's true.

so school is starting tomorrow officially... ahhhh! us kids really aren't ready for summer to end. hannah is a senior, bekah is a freshie, cj is in 7th, and aboo is in 2nd.
sports are also starting. Cj is playing soccer, bekah volleyball, and hannah's running on the cross country team. we're all pretty excited. bekah has her first game tomorrow, and hannah already had her first meet. aboo is pretty bummed out though... not playing any sports and all :)

and one last thing. dad just got back from hunting bear in maine! he had an awesome time, though he didn't even shoot a bear! :( kinda disappointing, but he's ok. the pics below are of some scenery in maine... pretty :)

so last week (or was it two weeks ago?) the maka 6 did an hour of what each person in the family wanted to do. and EVERYONE had to join in. OK some examples-

cj did an hour of football in the park behind our house
bekah did a photo shoot
aboo played barbies

so as you can imagine there was some interesting stuff going on in our house. dad loved playing barbies (actually he was a G-I-Joe). he brought some weird stuff into the barbie world. haha

And there was a big hairy monster who tried to eat all the barbies= cabela.

hannah was "big foot barbie", and she loved her pink grapes. :P

caleb was the mad scientist, no-legged barbie. (she is wearing the purple robe)

and abigail was a mermaid. :D

christmas day!!!

so christmas is full of traditions. first, on christmas eve, we eat chinese food and maybe watch a christmas movie (this year, White Christmas). Then we help get the presents under the tree, before we go to bed.

the next morning (christmas!!!!) we all get up pretty early (7ish) and eat breakfast. then we head for the presents under the tree. open presents time!! then we eat dinner/ lunch. and then we eat more. and probably more.
then we do stockings. then we eat dessert. yummmmm

aboo is just maybe excited? :D

CJ got all of us (except hannah) dallas stuff :) haha just shows what he likes, hum?

Dad finds a way to make a hat every year :)

in this pic CJ is opening a Honey Nut Cheerios box. (i'll get back to it later). So, CJ had been wanting a Wii game for a looooong looong time. so me and hannah wanted to disguise it. so we hid it in there (the Cheerios box.)

even though it was almost a week ago that we got our tree, i thought i would post anyway :)

we had a lot of fun picking out, cutting and decorating our tree. we spent almost an hour trying to decide on which tree. :)

Hannah's 16th Birthday!

Ooook! The fourth was Hannah's sixteenth birthday!!

Mom and Dad had to be gone in the morning, so they brought her a drink from Starbuckkkss and - her favorite! - Life cereal... in bed! hahahaha.

Then they came home and we ate lunch (the pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausages that we were going to have for breakfast! hahah. nothings better than breakfast for lunch! ;)

Then she opened presents... She didn't know, but she had a BIG surprise waiting for her!

Aboo gave her earrings that looked like Swedish Fish! hahah. Awesome! :)

Cabela is 1!

Cabela is one! oh wow!

She has gained 50 pounds. she is 62 lbs. WOW!!!!!!

She has eaten cardboard boxes, diapers (dirty), and chicken bones, hair bows, tissues,

and her favorite, stuffed animals :)

she is good sometimes... and sometimes the crate is the only option :)

and she looooves water (and balls)

hannah here! i believe there hasn't been a good long journaling post in quite a while, so i thought i'd step in :)

we've all been pretty busy around here with school and sports...

this year mom and dad have a high school student, two middle school students, and a 2nd grader.

caleb, rebekah and i have all been involved in fall sports... rebekah is doing middle school volleyball, caleb soccer, and i have been running on the varsity cross country team.

caleb has had one soccer game so far, and their team crushed! wootwoot. he got to play for 20 minutes or so and cheered on his team loudly the rest of the time. way to go buddy! :)

rebekah has had at least four games so far, and they're doing pretty good so far this season as well. cj and i are always teasing her because her sport is inside in the air conditioning / heated church building all summer and fall. luuucky!

our cross country team has had three meets so far and every time we have won by like at least double. we have some pretty fast runners (which is definitely not meant to include me :P) and we've had some really fun times during practices. :)

cj, rebekah and i are all taking classes outside of the house this year, which has been really fun for all of us. abigail has been having fun at home with mommy while we have been gone at sports and classes, but she wishes she could do more fun stuff.

mom has been teaching two separate classes at mci on wednesdays, putting her art skills to good use and serving some families.

hunting season started on monday, so dad has already spent some time in his blind. cj and him have been pretty excited and looking forward to it for some time now. hopefully we'll post some not-too-disgusting pictures soon of their recent successes. ;)

we'll keep you up to date on all of our adventures! :) hope everyone out there is having a good start of the school year and enjoying the nice fall weather!

hey so if you gave up on me because i haven't posted in a month.... my fault... oops, sorry. it's called craZy summer :)

so like a month ago a friend of ours got married to this guy... ya the blacked-haired guy with his head turned away from us.... hehehe

we took down the wall in out basement, and we are going to get new carpet and a couch and we have a big TV :) cool for parties and stuff :)

and probably one of the most exciting things happening July/August (other than courts wedding) is..... SWIM TEAM ENDED!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!

and just last week we got back from dad's mom and dad's house :) super fun

so abigail has this thing where she has a doughnut in bed every birthday. well this year she was so excited she woke up at like 6:00, and dad hadn't gone to the store yet (actually i don't think he was even awake yet) so aboo just had it when every one could watch her (and stare and drool) ;)

Epcot

alrighty! its hannah again... bekah and i have one more post from vacation after this one... its taking a while to get caught up. i'm in charge of this post about our day in disney world, then she'll post one soon of our family photo shoot on the beach :)

on our sixth day in florida, we got up early and drove 2 hours north to orlando, so that we could go to... EPCOT! :) daddy and mommy surprised us. we had no idea until after we left home that we were going to spend a day in disney! we were totally surprised and excited!

while we were driving up there, we got to see the sunrise...

this next one i actually took, so maybe it isn't "photographically correct" or whatever :P but i liked it since you can see the actual sun rays :)

the rest of the photos here were probably taken by bekah, but mom and dad helped out too.

haha! wow, so we were kind of excited about epcot, and bored on the car trip at the same time. plus we woke up early, and i don't remember what we ate for breakfast. yeah. so basically everything all together wasn't the best combination and you have two hyper sisters :P oh and one of them had a camera. big mistake.

and then... we got to disney... where "dweems come twu!" :)

this was a really fun park, and it's probably best known by it's trademark: THE BIG BALL. gasp. ok, haha. so maybe i just call it that for lack of a better word. is it called like mission space? or space something or... yeah. :)

first we walked through "the LAND"... which is the part that has most of the rides.

then we traveled through lots of different countries! they have a world showcase, and it was pretty cool :)

we visited france! :) so cool. now i can say i've seen (a miniature version of) THE eiffel tower!

abigail, you are the epitome of parisian style. haha!

i loved morocco's architecture!

next up we went to japan! er, not really. but it was still fun!

then things got a little... well...

haha! this ^ picture cracks me up! so i was just trying on this pair of sunglasses, and bekah snapped a photo... and this guy was in the background... ahhhh. his face makes me laugh! hahaha... and his little walrus tusks things... haaaahhaaa! ok, i don't know why this is so funny to me... :)

after touring about half of the countries, we went back (over by the Big ball... remember?) to ride on Test Track, which is a really fast rollercoaster... well not really rollercoaster.... but yeah... :P we were all sort of nervous about it haha! we're not very big rollercoaster people except dad :)

abigail was just a little scared, as you can see... but it was really awesome! :)

caleb and i in germany... fighting over... what is it? a beer mug? haha

then the sun began to set, and it was almost time for the famous disney fireworks!

then they STARTED! :)

yay! we had such a fun time! epcot was super cool! thanks to mom and dad who took us!

hello again! here's...

DAY 8:

... of our family vacation in siesta key, florida!

today we went for a long walk on the beach for some exercise, since all we had done so far was eat and sit and sit and eat, etc. :) while we were strolling along, we saw this really cool dragon sculpture in the sand that some man had done earlier... it was huge and pretty neat. buuuut, for some reason rebekah didn't get a picture of it. :P

but hey! at least she got these pictures of this yellow-footed bird that we saw. there were a ton of this kind the whole time we were there...

DAY 9:

on the ninth day, we went to the beach a little later on in the day so we could play around until sunset again... :)

ahkkkay. no comment here. except that she's gonna kill me when she sees i posted this picture. :) but i had to get at her somehow for posting downright hideous pictures of me :) hehehe! it's all in good fun bekah!

cj, aboo and i played out in the water a lot. the water is so clear that we could just look down and see little fishies swimming between our feet... i think everybody got super close to them, but none of us actually touched them... it was really fun :)

our parents are so cute! :)

DAY 10:

so our last day at the beach (it would be appropriate to stop here and express a small sign of sadness... :( <— more to come later), should be entitled "our encounter with nature" or something... but as that would be too cheesy, i shall attempt to explain through photos... :))))) first up...

dolphins! :) they came really super close! one of them jumped really far up out of the water. so cool!

then another one of those yellow-foot birds...

daddy had leftover fishing bait, which this bird wanted enough to risk coming pretty close to us. he ate out of dad's hand!

the last day was memorial day weekend... the beach was crowded.

there were hundreds of colors of umbrellas dotting the beach... almost everyone was in the water though. because. it was. SO. STINKIN'. WARM! :))))) not sure what this last part had to do with "encountering nature"... hm. i'll think about it. haha :)

so... our vacation was amazing. really fun, really relaxing. ahhhhhh. i miss it so much. yes, already! :P

hey everyone who doesn't look at this blog! hannah here! soooo, this past week has been our family vacation... it was relaxing and fun. yeah, so maybe we don't seem so adventurous since we keep going back to the same place over and over again. but you know what? sarasota, fl is amaaaaaaaazing!!!!!!!!!!!!

DAY 1:

sooo. for the first time ever, we left our house (if i remember correctly) around 11am... it was killer! we didn't get there until four o'clock the next morning. torturous. :P

but you know what? it was alllllll worth it in the end. at least, for me it was. but i wasn't the one who had to drive for 16 hours to get there. wooohooo for dad... AND mom, who drove on a long car trip for the first time! haha! dad normally doesn't let her... but this time, she was able to show off her road-rage (ahem! i mean, calm... smooth.... slow.... ) driving skills for us! just kidding mom! :)

caleb has become a professional skim-boarder... well not really, but to put it in daddy's words, cj probably skim-boarded the equivalent of 12 miles on just the first day we were there! and as you can see from the background of this unedited action pic (taken by the beksters... DUH!) the water is crystal blueish-green! it is tropical paradise! :)

abigail is also insane about playing in the water... the whole time we were there she was running around - building sandcastles, diving under waves, sitting in the water, then getting up to splash one of us... she definitely had a lot of fun. :)

rebekah was practically in photographer's heaven. she drove most of us (or at least me) crazy by snapping pictures left and right. but hey! look at all the great memories we'll now have! :)

DAY 2:

on the second day, aboo went out into the surf with an oooold fishing net that has lots of holes in it. talk about cute! she was splashing it down all over the place... she didn't catch any fish, but she had fun and got a good arm work-out! haha! :)

we stayed until sunset, and let. me. tell. you. itwasamazing!

so! after this relaxing day, we had a disney world adventure in epcot! wait for pictures and journaling of that in an upcoming post... along with days eight, nine and ten! :)

So last Saturday, I photographed 2 lovely girls at the Ag. Farm. We had so much fun thanks to Emily and Carrie's fun and photogenic style :)

Oh, this post is realllllllllllllly long, so be prepared. We were at the farm for 2 hours, so I took 778 pics, (which was all my memory card could hold). Here are some of the best!

thought I would start with this one.... they found a pot and thought is was the

best... haha... I did too :)

they have both been playing violin for 3 1/2 years, so they brought them for a prop, *so happy*

Carrie is like REALLY good at violin, she can play almost anything you put in front of her. At one point I asked her to play anything , just for a pose, and she stared playing this beauuuuuutiful piece.... just made me want to stop and listen :D

Well, now for me and Sarah's sweet friendship story :) :P

We met in New Members class, 2004, and hit right off. She always wore a pretty white dress and a bow in her hair, and was shy, (until I got to know her more) :).

Our relationship has been very strong ever since. Our family's go to the beach together, and we met as often as possible till it seemed like we hadn't seen each other in forever. After a week. :)

Plus, she is really talented! She won the song writing competition 2 times in a row, can knit and make card (anyone can make cards, but she is extra artsy), cares for her sibling and, makes amazing desserts, and loves her Savior! Yah, she is pretty fun!

Busssssy Week!!

We had a really full last week...one of the busiest in a LONG time :) late nights, early mornings, full of fun afternoons.

On Monday - Stayed up late (like 12:30 P.M!!) to watch the NCAA Basketball game

On Tuesday - Family Friends over all day + one night

Wednesday - family friends left, then we went to Cheesecake Factory at the inner harbor of Baltimore and then the circus :)

Thursday - All day out side at a farm, shooting guns and riding dirt bikes

Friday - back to normal!!

There is an Island about 20 minutes drive from the house were staying at that is a circle. Well, they put stores and restaurants along the perimeter and, all I'll say is, it is very cute and well done!!

This Monday we went for a family walk in Lake Needwood with Cabela. She went in the water some... but the water was COLD!!
